Aren't 368h supposed to be coming from the SID? Does it have any effect when you send it?

I think you are making the timing a bit more complex than it needs to be. Since the IHU is already requesting the display (either blank or with text) every second there is no need for extra timers. If "1E" works for you maybe you can take the rest of my implementation directly.
